We all have opinions on whether online dating beats just asking someone you meet out for a date, electric cars or petrol, online grocery shopping vs going in store and now mortgages are increasingly offering the same kind of choice.

Online only, The New. When you are dealing with a call centre who deal mainly online you can benefit from low cost access to a mortgage, the online interface may be slick but questions remain. Which lenders are on their panel, are you getting the best possible deal, how experienced is my advisor, how many people will I speak to until I get my keys, who is accountable when things go wrong and how will any problems be resolved if I don’t have a dedicated advisor from start to finish. Unusual style property, self employed, complex income, credit blips can all fall foul here.

The Old. Seeing people face to face is great and vital in some cases. Accountability is key when it comes to securing the best outcome for your mortgage, especially if your income and circumstances need a specialist touch. Spending hours away from your day are at best an inconvenience though and often a pain. Watching someone fill in a form is not interesting and frustrating when we are all busy.
